"Under The 2026 Florida Statutes, a licensed acupuncturist—frequently called an acupuncture physician in the state—is legally defined and recognized to practice acupuncture as a primary health care provider. They do not require a medical doctor's referral for patients to see them.

Legal Scope and Training in Florida:

• Primary Care Status: Florida law defines acupuncture as a form of primary health care for restoring health and preventing disease.

• Clinical Abilities: Licensed practitioners may perform physical exams, order lab work, and request radiological imaging.

• Common Titles: Practitioners commonly use the title Acupuncture Physician (AP) in Florida after completing master's-level training in oriental medicine and passing national board requirements. "
